Decompression Chamber

Tuesday Musical’s Decompression Chamber aims to help ease stress in our community.

Launched in 2017, the series brings free, 45-minute concerts by chamber musicians to staff and clients at social service agencies, factories, hospitals, government offices, and other high-pressure sites. Support comes from Akron Community Foundation, GAR, Knight Foundation, and many others.

We’ve presented Decompression Chamber performances by OPUS 216 and other ensembles at Haven of Rest in Akron, Valor Home in Akron, Grace House in Akron (a hospice facility serving people who are at the end of their life but do not have caregivers or a safe place to live), Rockynol, the public library in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood that serves a robust international community, and Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center in Akron. Over the years, Decompression Chamber performances have also happened at Akron’s Municipal Building, Summit County’s Juvenile Court and Probate Court, Minson Plaza on Arlington (in partnership with the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation), Akron General Medical Center, Akron Art Museum for downtown Akron workers, and even at the West Side Bakery on W. Market St. in Akron for bakers during the busy holiday season. Here’s the Beacon Journal article.

Research shows that classical music can decrease stress, boost brain function, improve productivity, increase physical performance, and sharpen memory. With Decompression Chamber, Tuesday Musical is sharing those benefits with people throughout Greater Akron and NE Ohio.

Tuesday Musical covers all costs. The only thing that we ask is that the venues help to promote the event to their staff/residents/clients and provide armless chairs for the musicians.
