JOB DESCRIPTION: Director of Artistic Operations and Community Engagement

Founded 139 years ago and now an anchor arts organization in Akron, Ohio, Tuesday Musical presents concerts by internationally acclaimed musicians as well as education and community engagement programs throughout northeast Ohio.

We seek a Director of Artistic Operations and Community Engagement with proven abilities in education and community engagement, artistic operations, development and related areas.

This full-time position will report to Tuesday Musical’s incoming Executive Director, Austin Ferguson, and work in collaboration with the organization’s Director of Finance and Audience Services, Board of Directors and related committees.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; master’s degree in arts management or relevant field preferred.
  • Proven abilities in artistic operations, education and community engagement, and development.
  • Relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, marketing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of chamber/classical/jazz music and artists preferred.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

Artistic Operations

  • Work with guest artists, agents, venue staff and vendors to advance concert logistics for performances on varying timelines, create and implement artist itineraries, secure lodging and transportation, arrange hospitality and related tasks as necessary.
  • Work with Executive Director and Artistic Planning Committee to help curate concert season.
  • With the Executive Director, serve as Tuesday Musical liaison for guest artists, agents, concert venues and vendors.
  • Assist with production of concert program books, season brochures and concert marketing materials.

 

Education and Community Engagement

  • With the Executive Director, coordinate education and community engagement programs including TMA’s student ticket program, in-school masterclasses/workshops/artist residencies, decompression chambers and community performances.
  • Serve as liaison for Tuesday Musical with area schools and community organizations, building upon relationships with their leaders to continue positive engagement with TMA programming.
  • Work with TMA staff and board committee chairs to manage all components of the Annual Scholarship Competition. 
  • Assist board committee chairs with Brahms Allegro Jr. Music Club and Membership Programs.
  • With the Executive Director, represent Tuesday Musical at Greater Akron arts and civic events.

 

Development and Other Duties

  • Work with Executive Director and Director of Finance and Audience Services to oversee tracking, reporting and database management of individual, corporate and foundation gifts in Tuesday Musical’s CRM – AudienceView.
  • Help to engage and steward donors through in-person relationship building at Tuesday Musical concerts and events.
  • Assist the Executive Director in preparing grant applications and funding proposals for foundations, businesses, and government agencies.
  • With the Executive Director, meet with foundation leaders to provide updates regarding Tuesday Musical programming and relevant data.
  • Assist with ticket orders, audience mailings, donor letters, and related public facing duties.
  • With the Executive Director and marketing consultants, help to promote Tuesday Musical concerts and programs via print/digital/social media.
  • Attend Tuesday Musical concerts and events, including days, evenings and weekends.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
 
Schedule
  • The Director of Artistic Operations and Community Engagement will work full time, 40 hours per week or as needed to accomplish duties. Four days per week to be worked on-site in the TMA office.
  • This position requires occasionally working during evenings and weekends for concerts and events. Flex time is made available to offset work occurring outside of normal hours.
 
Compensation and Benefits
  • The salary range for this position is $43,000 to $46,000 commensurate with the applicant’s experience.
  • Benefits include: 20 days paid vacation, health insurance stipend and retirement match.
