Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must not have been born before March 22, 1995.

The Music Education application and $40 application fee must be submitted on-line here from January 1 through February 1, 2025. (The application portal will go live here at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2025.)
Spaces are limited, so apply early. Application fees are non-refundable. Fees will be returned only for applications that cannot be accepted; those refunds will be processed immediately after March 22, 2025.
At the time of application, a Music Education applicant must have attained at least junior status and must be currently enrolled and seeking a degree/certification in Music Education at the undergraduate or graduate level.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Ohio, or their college must be located in Ohio. Spaces are limited, so apply as soon as possible. No person may win two years in a row or more than twice. Judges' decisions are final.

How to Compete

Applications for Tuesday Musical's 2025 Scholarship Competition will be accepted only on-line from January 1 through February 1, 2025.

You must also submit the following to scholarship@tuesdaymusical.org no later than March 1, 2025:

  • Your essay (up to 500 words) focusing on your motivation for choosing a career in music education and a statement of short-term and long-term goals, including specific plans for a career in teaching.
  • Your resume listing scholarships, honors, performances, activities and professional music organization memberships, plus other pertinent information and experiences.
  • A copy of your current transcript, including all courses in Music Education, current grades, and estimated date of graduation.

Applicants will participate in a 10-15 minute interview with the judge during the 2025 Scholarship Competition on March 22, 2025, in Guzzetta Hall at The University of Akron.

Also on March 25, 2025, Music Education applicants must perform from your performance category. Please choose ONE WORK from the Music Education repertoire requirements found on this website.

Winners will be announced March 22, 2025.

Important Note: Applicants who fail to submit the required materials by the deadlines will be disqualified and will forfeit their application fees.

Repertoire Requirements for Music Education Applicants

Music Education applicants must perform ONE WORK from the repertoire listed below in your performance category.

All repertoire that requires accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment‪.‬ ‬‬‬ 
Only repertoire originally written for unaccompanied instrument or voice may be performed without an‬ accompanist‪.‬ ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

VOICE, all memorized

A. One aria from an opera, oratorio or cantata
B. One art song in German, French or Italian
C. One 20th-21st Century composition in English

STRINGS, INCLUDING STRING BASS, one selection memorized

A. One movement from a Bach unaccompanied work
B. Two contrasting movements of a concerto
C. One Classical, Romantic, or Modern Composition

PIANO, all memorized

A. One work by J.S. Bach
B. Two contrasting movements of a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert
C. A work or group of works by a Romantic, 20th century, or 21st century composer

CLASSICAL GUITAR

A. One work by J. S. Bach
B. One piece in Classical or Romantic style
C. One 20th-21st Century composition (competitors may play their own compositions)

ORGAN

A. A contrapuntal piece by J.S. Bach
B. One movement from a romantic work
C. One movement of a 20th-21st Century composition

WOODWINDS

FLUTE, one selection memorized

A. One movement of a Classical concerto
B. One Romantic work
C. One 20th-21st Century composition

OBOE/BASSOON/CLARINET, one selection memorized

A. One movement of a Baroque sonata or Romantic work
B. Two contrasting movements of a Classical concerto

SAXOPHONE, one selection memorized

A. One movement of a Baroque work transcribed for any saxophone
B. Two contrasting movements from a standard saxophone work, i.e., Glazunov, Ibert, Tomasi, Creston, Milhaud, Villa-Lobos, etc. Single-movement standard works with contrasting sections are also acceptable, i.e. Glazounov, Debussy, etc.
C. One movement of a 20th-21st Century composition: extended techniques suggested but not required

Music Education Scholarship Application

You must also submit the following to scholarship@tuesdaymusical.org no later than March 1, 2024:

  1. Your essay (up to 500 words) focusing on your motivation for choosing a career in music education and a statement of short-term and long-term goals, including specific plans for a career in teaching.
  2. Your resume listing scholarships, honors, performances, activities and professional music organization memberships, plus other pertinent information and experiences.
  3. A copy of your current transcript, including all courses in Music Education, current grades, and estimated date of graduation.


Important! You should receive a confirmation email immediately after you apply (check your spam folder). If you don’t receive a confirmation email, your application has not been processed and you should try to apply again (don’t worry, we won’t charge you twice).
