Celebrating two Akron arts icons

We’re partnering with Verb Ballets and Chamber Music Society of Ohio (CMSO) to celebrate two internationally known Akron arts icons: jazz pianist/composer Pat “Patsy” Pace and Ohio Ballet founder/choreographer Heinz Poll.

Akron Legends of Jazz & Dance will feature Pace’s “Excursions,” first premiered by Akron-based Ohio Ballet in 1982 and now reimagined and performed by Verb.

Local musicians on flute, clarinet, bass, percussion and piano will perform the original score.
They include and are being organized by flutist George Pope, co-founder of CMSO and a member of the original “Excursions” ensemble.

Verb also will perform Poll’s “Rococo Variations” in the original costumes, marking the piece’s first EJ performance in decades and the first since Ohio Ballet closed following Poll’s passing in 2006.

Revisit or discover two legends whose artistic impact continues today in Akron and beyond.

  • Before the performance: Enjoy our intimate "Concert Conversation" with creators of this special evening. 6:30 p.m. in EJ's Flying Balcony. Easily accessed by elevator, the Flying Balcony offers comfortable seating and a cash bar.
