Czech violinist and vocalist Iva Bittova moves freely through the worlds of classical music and improvisation, creating exquisite, unrepeatable musical experiences. NPR’s All Things Considered raved that Bittova is “Raw and refined, passionate and contained, she has the soul of a gypsy, the voice of a troubadour, and the mind of a genius.”
Iva has said, "The violin is a mirror reflecting my dreams and imagination. I believe there are fundamentals to my performance, such as the music’s vibration and resonance between violin and my voice. Their ‘symphony’ leads me on to perfection, even though I know it never can be attained.”
Bittova joins the fresh, yet already revered Calder Quartet to perform works by Fred Frith, Leoš Janáček and Béla Bartók inspired by Moravian poetry and folk songs. Named after the artist Alexander Calder, the Los Angeles-based quartet continues to expand its unique array of projects by performing traditional repertoire as well as partnering with innovative modern composers, emerging musicians, and performers across genres.
